Orbit-uary Quadro Towers and Heartbreakers

Achievement,Ulduar — Kawaihae

After clearing Yogg now twice, we decided to really start tackling hard modes. We had been doing Leviathan with two towers up or no towers up depending on how fast we wanted to blow through there. Last week an attempt was made at three towers. It just happens that that attempt resulted in a one shot. So really, how close were we to getting Orbit-uary? It turns out pretty close. Last night’s four or 5 attempts had us steadily making progress on Leviathan until we got him.

On XT we just barely, and by barely I mean infinitesimally just so, got the heart killed to trigger hard mode. It really depended on death knight cool downs. But once there we got XT in a few tries.

So, onward to more complex fights. We’re ready.

Yogg Defeated

It’s very unlikely that this could have been closer.

We started the evening barely getting into phase two, but quickly retook the progress that we had made last Thursday. Soon we were refining the actions of the melee group inside the visions of Yogg and the tentacle killing priority of the group outside the old death god.

Quickly, we were well into phase three and learning the challenges of herding all those space elephants into manageable tank groups.

Our second to last attempt had him at 21%.

Still learning the fight, our raid leader told us that if it was close he’d pull all dps from the adds over to Yogg. Most of the healers had no idea of what he was talking about, given that they were busy mending wounds, decursing, curing diseases, dispelling magics, and cleansing poisons.

All of a sudden we knew what close was as dps was told to switch targets. We hit the enrage timer and the entire raid’s health dipped below 50%. A few raiders were killed by adds, but then simultaneously 25 people’s screens erupted in a flurry of achievements. Yogg was killed by dots and our vent server carried a cacophony of nerd screams across North America.

From here we’ll take a less frantic pace in Ulduar. Learning as many of the hard mode keeper fights as we can before the next patch, and returning to Yogg’s loot table as often as time permits.

Our eyes are now fixed upon Algalon.

Yogg Update

Uncategorized — Kawaihae

We started the week with a series of one shots right up to Yogg, leaving last night free to work on the old one. After refining phase one a bit more we were able to put phase two under our belts. Our last attempt had us into phase 3.

Monday we are poised to finish him off.

It’s Yogg Time

Ulduar — Kawaihae

We’ve been working on Yogg now for a few weeks. A few of our ten man groups have killed him already, and we’ve been training additional dps’rs on the inner workings of old ones’ brain surgery and sanity saving methods. Next post here will hopefully have news and a screenshot.

Keepers of Ulduar and Vezax Down

Boss Kills,Ulduar — Kawaihae

In a two shot attempt we took Vezax down rather easily. It’s helped greatly that we now have two solid 10 mans running Ulduar and glimpsing the fights ahead of time, knowing the fights even at a smaller scale helped out greatly. We used the healers cast-at-his-feet method to avoid the shadow bursts and had our sharp shooters out looking for saronite vapor clouds.

This seemed like a reward for working on Mimiron over the last few weeks. We spent at least an hour on him this evening and once we had our healer/dps balance set, we easily made it into phase 4.

We rounded out the night with a few attempts on Yogg, just to get to see the fight. Next week, its for real.

Thanks Thorim!

Boss Kills,Ulduar — Kawaihae

Last week we took two new bosses, Freya and Thorim. We required multiple attempts on Thorim to get the balance between the hallway Gauntlet and the arena floor just right, but were well rewarded upon finally getting the job done. On our last raid day of the week, we did go on to encounter Mimiron and made it into phase 3. With the experience of a few groups already downing Mimiron in ten man versions, this week will most likely have us freeing all the keepers.

Nature Contained

Boss Kills,Ulduar — Kawaihae

A very short story without an awesome boss kill screenshot: We freed Freya after a blitz through the antechamber on the first day of the raiding week. In a related story we were also very close to finishing the Thorim encounter. Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel.

Stat!

Uncategorized — Kawaihae

Currently we are working on Thorim. The arena part of the encounter is giving us a bit of a headache. Some of us have done it 10 man, and we made some progress last night. This week we’ll concentrate on it. We will also try for two towers up on Leviathan.

Another fragment of Val’Anyr dropped bringing our designated legendary mace wielder Jazira’s total collection to 3. Our pace will pick up as more bosses are put on farm each week.

Hodir Added to the List

Boss Kills,Ulduar — Kawaihae

First night of the raid week and we made a bee line to Hodir. Some had seen the fight on ten man so that helped quite a bit. The first attempt taught us about the frost circles. The second taught us when to jump in. The third brought our attention to the moonbeam spots of haste, and the fourth focused us on freeing the friendly NPCs. On our fifth try we nabbed him and secured two T8 chest pieces.

Tomorrow night is Freya and Mimiron.

Recently Evicted Crazy Cat Lady

Boss Kills,Ulduar — Kawaihae

The latest edition to our Ulduar resume includes breaking down Kologarn’s form into something more useful, adjourning the Iron council and having Auriaya pack up her bags. Along the way we’ve picked up two Val’Anyr legendary mace fragments for Jazira, our designated mace recipient. Expect more progress this Monday.
